Twitter Positioning Itself As Local Media

Twitter is increasingly moving into the Local Media space. Their latest announcement is interesting for local business as people will be able to include “place” information in their tweets.

The details are still a little sketchy but Tweeters will be able to show where their tweet has come from. This could facilitate real time conversations around places like sporting events, nightclubs, cafes etc.

Twitter will roll this feature out in the US to begin with but if successful Australia will probably be close behind.

What does it mean for local business? Well, probably not much just yet but be prepared for Social Media playing a part in your marketing in the very near future.
